Hey Reader, One of the most surprising parts of my work as a dietitian is that while people do come to me for nutrition guidance…but the issue usually is not that they know nothing. Often, they already know a fair amount. Most already know a lot. They know which foods are nutrient-dense. They know which foods they’re “supposed” to limit. They know the meal plans, the tracking apps, the macro targets. They’ve learned a lot over the years. But they’re also exhausted. Because the more rules someone carries around food, the harder eating often becomes. Every meal and snack turns into a decision or debate. Every craving feels like something that needs to be controlled. At some point, eating stops feeling like something natural and starts feeling like something that needs to be managed all day long. And this is where many people are surprised. Progress rarely comes from learning even more nutrition strategies. It often begins with unlearning some of the rules that created the pressure in the first place (from diet culture). Letting meals become simpler. Letting food stop being a test you can fail. Letting eating return to something your body already knows how to do. That shift alone can change a lot about how food feels day to day. -Kat :) P.S. Inside the Unlocked Nutrition & Food Freedom Community, we spend time untangling the food rules many people have been carrying for years and replacing them with calmer, more sustainable ways of eating. If you’re curious what that process can look like, you can learn more about the community here. |

It’s easy to assume you need more discipline when food feels chaotic. That’s usually where people are after bouncing between strict eating and moments that feel completely out of control. You might already know a lot about nutrition. At some point though, it all starts to blur together and it’s hard to tell what actually applies to you anymore. This came up in a session recently. There was so much information, so many past rules, that it had quietly drowned out any sense of what felt right in...
Most people who come to me for nutrition help think they need a better meal plan. More structure. More discipline. More rules. But what I see as a dietitian is something different. People already know a lot about nutrition. They’ve tried the plans. They’ve followed the rules. The problem is those systems collapse the moment life gets busy, stressful, or unpredictable. Real life doesn’t follow meal plans. Real life needs flexibility. Inside the Unlocked Nutrition & Food Freedom Community, we...
Hey Reader, A pattern I see often in my work as a dietitian starts very well-intentioned. Someone decides they want to “be good” with food that day. Breakfast gets pushed later or skipped because mornings are busy. Lunch stays small because they want to stay “on track.” Snacks feel unnecessary or indulgent, so they skip those too. For most of the afternoon, it feels like they’re doing everything right. Then evening arrives. Suddenly the kitchen feels louder. Hunger feels sharper. The pantry...
